Association to Save Abandoned Pets (ASAP)
Liz Leger Memorial Fund
The following seven cats were rescued from the Los Angeles Animal Services and found new homes in honor of Liz Leger who passed away unexpectedly due to a heart attack.  Her husband Bob Leger, friends and relatives donated a special fund of  $350 to be used towards rescuing abandoned cats, Liz Leger’s long-time passion. Thank you for honoring Liz Leger and helping save the lives of the cats shown below.

Female - 1 year

"Katie" was rescued on 4/1 and taken to the vet for an exam, combo test, de-worming and flea control. She was deemed healthy and went to a foster home to chill out for a few days. She was taken to adoptions the following weekend and was adopted her first day out to a nice family with three children and one other cat. It was obvious she liked this family right away as she flirted with them through the bars of her cage. She now has a "buddy" to hang out with during the day when the family is not at home, and is living the good life in the South Bay.

Female - spayed  - 3 years

"Meena" was rescued on 3/26 with very little time left (was actually red listed), from a high kill shelter and was then hospitalized with URI (kitty cold). She had her Vet exam, combo test, de-worming and was given antibiotics and sub-q fluids. After she got well, she was moved to a foster home so she could chill out and play with other cats after being in the shelter and hospital. She got along great with both cats and dogs, which is always a plus to potential adopters. She was adopted on 4/11, at her first time out at adoptions, to a very nice couple with one other cat. She is finally living the good life she was meant to live.

Female, spayed - 6-8 years

"Sasha" was adopted on April 26 by a nice couple who saw her on the e-mail I sent out to the Rescue Community. A Rescuer had posted it on a company bulletin board and it was forwarded out into the world, which is how Sasha found a new home. When Sasha was taken to the Vet for her exam, combo test and de-worming, we were told she had a severe gum infection that had spread throughout her system and it was recommended she have many of her teeth removed. She was put on strong antibiotics and a soft food diet to aid in her recovery. She has recovered completely and is happy at home with a sister cat who looks very much like her. Her new "mom" likes to think that the two cats may somehow be related and were fated to end up together!

Male - 3 years

"Paddington" was rescued on 4/23 and his neuter was deferred because he had URI. He was examined, combo tested, de-wormed and put on strong antibiotics and sub-q fluids. He got lucky because there was an opening at one of our foster homes that has "ISO" for sick cats, so he did not have to stay at the hospital. Even though he wasn't feeling 100%, he still became the "alpha cat" at his foster home. A nice woman who recently moved to LA from the East Coast came by our foster home looking for a kitten but when she spotted Paddington, she knew he was the one. As he was not yet over his cold and was still on meds, we did a "foster to adopt" agreement. Of course, she fell in love when he climbed into her bed the first night. He is now neutered, happy and the man of the house!

Female  - 1 year

"Help Me Rhonda" was on the "Red List" because of a scabies diagnosis. To us, scabies is just a minor inconvenience and we couldn't let her be killed at the shelter once we found out about her. We rescued her on 4/14 and immediately took her to our Vet. To our surprise, Rhonda did not have scabies, but she had a huge belly. No one at the shelter noticed she was pregnant! A few days later she delivered six healthy kittens and was a wonderful mother. When the kittens were 5 weeks we separated them and Rhonda was spayed and put up for adoption. She was adopted by a wonderful couple who were won over by her outgoing personality. She immediately jumped into the man's lap, as if to say, "these people are the ones!" He was so excited and said that a cat had never taken to him so quickly. It was great to see her actually "choose" this couple. They were so excited and immediately went to Petco to "stock up" on all things cat to take home to Rhonda and their other cat.

Female, spayed - 3 years

"Sassy" was dumped at the North Central shelter when she became pregnant. She was then spayed and developed URI. We rescued her on 4/1 and she was combo tested, de-wormed, given flea control, treated for URI and placed into a foster home where she slept under the covers with her foster mom the first night! She was adopted on 4/15 to a wonderful couple who were looking for a "buddy" for their Maine Coon cat. She is now living the good life in Pasadena.

Male - 1 year

"Zyrtec" was rescued on 3/26 and adopted on his first day out at adoptions on 3/29. A nice woman came into Petco looking for a cat to be a friend to her cat. She had recently lost an old cat to illness and her cat was lonely. Zyrtec immediately began to flirt with her and won her over right away. She was so excited, she did a big "kitty shopping" at Petco and bought him everything! He bonded with her other cat right away and they are now best buddies!
